Preemptive Pathing

Both preemptive pathing and proportional beaconing are intended for mobile use and most effective there. However a digipeater can add the positive effect preemptive pathing and proportional beaconing as a reduction of QRM on the APRS network.

With preemtive pathing, packets go frequently locally and direct, and less frequently at more and more hops.

Example.

In this example the deafult beacon is transmitterd over the, in the network, full allowed path. This is done at a long interval of 30 minutes.
Other beacons that are of less interest to the network but of use to the mobile user are only sended local and at a higher interval. Also this beacon is in compressed format. This reduces the transmission time and the chance that a collission occures.

The short compressed beacon also helps to determine the coverage-range of the digi as it can only be received directly.
