Configuration

BOOT from the floppy, if DIGI_NED is not configured a configuration program appears.

Navigation is done with TAB and Shift-TAB and function keys. F3 gives help on a field.

Step 1.

After starting the configuration program you are being asked if you want to start configuring DIGI_NED. the configuration program will overwrite the files:

All previous settings will be lost when you continue. Changes are not recoverable.

Step 2.

Here the digi_call and location is configured. Also the digi owner(s), the location of the digi, and the metric to be used are configured.

The location of the digi is stored in the file 'DIGI_NED\digibcon.ini'

After applying F3 function key you will be prompted if all settings are ok. Y(es) wil continue to the next step, N(o) will keep you on the current screen

Step 3.

Here we select one of the preset hardware configurations that are prepared in DIGIFLOP.

You can choose 16 different predefined hardware configurations:

If none of the predefined configurations matches your hardware then manually edit run.bat and specify the correct parameters at the startup of ax25_mac. For details read 'AX25_MAC Manual' (this is the hardest part, to get the correct configuration for your hardware). You may want to have a look at the preconfigured examples to get an idea how to change it for your hardware.

Optionally edit ax25_mac.ini and specify the TX delay for each port. Initially they are fool-prove defaults with a 300ms TX delay, but it is better to adjust it for your TRX for better performance and less QRM.

Step 4.

Now can configure the port settings and some RF parameters that are related to the abilities of the RF-port.

Parameters configured are: QRG, min DX distance, Maximum DX distance.

Step 5.

Now we select the routingmechanism that the digi will have.

Due to heavy load on current APRS networks it is advised not to use
traditional TRACEn-n or WIDEn-n in a live system for permanent installation.
However in a experiment it can be used with care.

Currently the new Paradigm routing mechanism is NOT supported. you will need to add this part to the digin_ned.ini file manually. This is described in ' using DIGI_FLOP > paradigm'

Step 6.

Now we configure some other parameters. Due to the use of paradigm some settings require a default setting.

The following settings are recommended:

  • WIDE digipeating: NO (obsolete, replace with WIDE1-1)
  • TRACE digipeating: NO (obsolete)
  • RELAY digipeating: NO (obsolete, replace with WIDE1-1)
  • digipeat non AX25 UI Packets: NO
  • Digipeater Icon Overlay:T for test, S for State (more info see 'paradigm')

Step 7.

Now we have finished configuration the required files will be writen on the floppy.
